AOD's

For now just a quick word regarding Converters.

If you are looking for a bit more stall speed but don't care to spend 3 to $400 on a custom job, Ford has one for you.

    Ford makes 3 different AOD converters.  A 6 cylinder, including the Super-Charged T-Bird, a 302 (5.0L) & a 351 (5.8L).

So for no additional cost at rebuild time, you can ask for a 6 cylinder one & gain a couple hundred stall speed.

Not that I don't trust the mechanics, but you need to make sure you are getting the 6 cyl one.    The rebuilder may only make 2 models, like for the 302 & 351.   Then he may think you won't know the difference & put in another 302 one.

What you need to do is to actually see the listing for the 3 models in the catalog & note the 6's part #, then ask for the box it came in before or after installation.

The Sleeper AOD!

The 93 Econoline Van has a Wide Ratio gear set.  It still has a Mechanical Valve Body where anything newer has a computer controlled VB.    It is referred to as a "4RW".

The 87 up AOD has better main shaft Oiling, which is important if you are running like 3.73 or up gears & putting miles on the freeway (like faster than 55).
