84-85 LTD-LX
It's strange that the new 83 LTD, being basically a stretched 4 door Mustang, had the room for a 460 but didn't even offer the 5.0 V8. Only a straight 4, or 6, and a V6.
But that soon changed over at Bob Bondurant's Racing School. Bob was using Mustangs for teaching students but also needed a bigger 4 passenger car for demonstration rides. As luck would have it, FoMoCo President Don Peterson (not related that I know of, darn it!) was hanging around (on official business) & the two of them got their heads together & before long there was a prototype 5.0 HO LTD (Another darn it! It had a 5 speed !) running around the race track. Bob & Don liked it & the LTD-LX /Police was born.
The LX came with 165 HP, 5.0 HO, CFI, AOD, HD Suspension, larger rear drum brakes (from the station wagon), 3.27 gears, console shifter, with special interior & exterior trim.
