Accidents

Have been told of at least 4 accidents with the Chokers where a Tow Truck was required.

Another very unlucky driver, after a collision with a Choker,  drove away, intending to get to a Service Station to check his Vehicle, but on the way, the steering failed & he hit another Vehicle.      His Drivers License was then suspended!       Thanks City!

Another time a parked car was hit!

Then at night, an apparent Drunk driver, stopped behind the “Zaging” parked car & blew his Horn for it to move!

Uncounted are the numerous ones where they were able to drive away.   How many of these came close to having another accident due to Choker impact damage is unknown!

This is a deplorable number in a short time where before I heard of partially none.

The exception I have heard of is when one of the involved crossings had a Yield sign, there were some accidents, but that changed when the Yield was replaced with a Stop sign.

So it appears that concerns about apparent, speeding cars (85 percentile of 34 mph) has been transformed into a real Dangerous Roadway to Vehicles & those who live close at hand!

Any street that has Commuters rushing to work on it will have apparent fast driving.  But they are used to it & nominally isn’t a problem!  But try driving the same street on a weekend & it appears many drivers would/should fail a driving test & are unable to keep up with normal traffic flow, causing a disruption.   This is my observation from driving 17 surface street miles to work!

Is there any Street that doesn’t have apparent “fast” driving at times?   With all the improvements to cars (most SUV’s, 4x4’s, high Pickups, etc., not included)  handling & braking, it comes natural, unfortunately!     More congestion makes for more delays makes for more frustration makes for more attempted make up of lost time!

Two Obstacles like these, only encourage “active” drivers to try beating the system & “play” with them.     Maybe soon back to the same pre Choker Speed, but at a much higher risk all around!      This does not encourage SAFE DRIVING!

The low speed Blindsiding Booby-Trap accidents don’t put others in much chance of danger, but at higher speeds, after ricocheting off the Choker, or going completely over it, who knows where one will end up!    An impact with the Choker could throw your weight forward, causing you to “floor” the Gas Peddle!

One Vehicle hit the Red Gutter curbing, going up & nearly hitting a Tree!    The same Tree lost a Limb to a Gutter driving Truck!

Then there’s a Fire Hydrant at a Red area that’s even closed to the Curbing (about a foot away) than the close call Tree was!

Will it take one hitting a Pedestrian for the Powers that Be, to see the Light?

All this shows why EXPERIENCED PROFESSIONALS  are needed when it comes to Traffic Calming solutions!
