1984 L.A. OLYMPIC Police Cars

The USofA, in 84, in support of the Olympics (so I have been told by a reliable source, Steve,  a guy that owns about 30 Fords), leased the County of Los Angeles, 200 LTD "Fox" Police cars.  The Lease terms were $1 a year for 2 years after which the County would buy them for some unknown, at this time, price.    After the Olympics,  the county used them for replacement Sheriff cars as needed.      One way to ID these cars (few left, I would imagine), is to check a Police car for it's ID#  which was on the far Left edge of the Dash, with the # vertical.  If it were 1 of these 200 Leased LTD's, at the end of this # would be a "L" for leased.

In the picture one can see the 140 Speedo, gauges over glove box, passenger side spot light.  Also the serial # with a "L" at the bottom.     Car came with  3" Diese seat belts (dated 86), Rubber Mats, Cloth Front Seats, Vinyl Rear Seat, single Key & deactivated interior rear door handles.

Steve also says, that these Foxes are still being used down-town LA by the County Court Police as they are smaller & easier to maneuver it the congested area.

Now Scott has seen a Fox LTD parked with several Crown Vick's on TV regarding a high profile Court case.       Not as far-fetched as it would seem!

These are Sheriff or Marshall cars, not the LAPD.
