This is my bass rig. I started out in 1984 with the
AMP 260 sitting in the rack. It's the only piece that
was bought new. It's a decent amplifier but it is very old. Now
that most places have house PAs, you really don't need a lot of
power. I traded a Dietz 1X15 cab and $150 to get the Hartke 4X10 and
in 1989 added the 2X10 on top for around $300. After using some Alesis
stuff, I got the ART Night Bass effects unit with the foot board
in '97 or '98 from Guitar Center. That set me back around $500.
It's pretty noisy and I wouldn't use it in a studio. For live gigs,
though, its fine. The newest gear on the rig is around 10 years old and
the oldest is over 20. It's time to get a new rig - specifically one that
I can run my Rick on in stereo. I'm impressed by the Bass POD rack unit
and I'm thinking of using it for a pre-amp. A QSC RMX1450 with 450 watts
each side (who says you don't need power anymore?) to power it and two
SWR Goliath 4X10 cabs. With this thing, my neighbors can hear me a 1/2 mile away.
I have yet to actually listen to the whole package. I figure it couldn't be
any more than I drop on computer equipment every 5 years. So, what the heck?
In 20 years who's gonna care?
