Molly's Musings

Jon keeps bugging me to add something to our webpage, but I am having a hard time deciding what to contribute.
So, I am asking you all for input. What is missing from our webpage that would be of interest: commentary on the news
of the day, my latest rantings on our toxic food environment, my favorite recipes, the ups and downs of parenting, environmental
stewardship, food and politics, .... Please weigh in by e-mailing me at my earthlink address. I will start
with a little something about our toxic food environment. I have been reading the book "The Omnivore's Dilemma" by Michael
Pollan. It should be required reading for anyone who needs to eat to stay alive. Here are some of my thoughts
about our food supply and the way we eat after reading this book. Avoid fast food at all costs. Know where your
food comes from. Buy as much food from local sources as possible. This decreases the amount of fuel needed to deliver
the food and supports the local economy. Buy organic as much as possible. Eat mostly whole foods that have not
been processed (yes, this means you have to cook). The way our society currently feeds itself is unsustainable from
an environmental perspecitve as well as a health perspective. Make good food a priority especially if it means spending
less money on something else.

Iraq War Protest
Sean and Sunyi and the four Haynes' at the Iraq war protest in downtown Portland. This is on the 4th anniversary
of the start of the war. George Bush has definitely sealed his legacy.

San Diego
Patrick, Sam, Molly, and I flew down to San Diego to meet the newest family member, Ellen Crain. She is an adorable
little girl. Kathleen and Brian are proud parents for sure. We had a great time down there. When we left
Portland it was snowing. By the time we left San Diego we had soaked up enough sun to last us a month. The beach,
zoo, Pizza Port, O'Brien's.............. Good times.
