These are two of four "trompe l'oeil" (trick the eye) paintings on cupboard doors created for collector Gil Kohl.   The doors are perfectly flat.   Any depth perceived is painted to give that appearance.    Even though the white "molding" around the edge appears to have depth, the flat surface is simply painted to look that way, as are all the shadows.
