There were two Jewish terrorist groups in Palestine at this t ime. The I.Z.L.  Irgun Zwai Leumi I hope the spelling is  right) and the Stern Gang.  The Irgun bombed buildings and created the car bomb.  The King David Hotel  was blown up  with a bomb in a milk churn , these two photos were taken  at   this time. The Stern Gang assasinated any one they thought  was standing  in the way of the creation of the state of Israel. Included were Lord Moyne, Count Bernadotte and many members of the 6th Airborne Division.  Menachem Begin was  the leader of the I.Z.L. at this time, if we had  been   on our toes and caught him we might have denied Israel a Prime  Minister            The Irgun did kidnap two sergeants and brutally kill them in retaliation for the execution of Dov Gruner who  was captured in an attack  on a Palestine  Police station at Latrun.

This was the camp cinema at Aquir after someone planted a bomb against the outside wall. There were no significant casualities, although it did disrupt the showing of movies.

This is a photo of George Ennis and Johnny Evans taken on the troopship , George was with the 2nd   Independent Parachute Brigade that fought in the Middle East, N. Africa , Sicily ,Italy, Southern France and Greece. He was a Company Sergeant Major before he went to Officer Cadet Training Unit. If my memory serves me right he was at 164 OCTU with me at Barmouth in North Wales. He is on the right in the crazy photo that was taken when we finally were commissioned. Hard to believe that these crazy people were now  "Officers and   Gentlemen"  allbeit temporary!  I am in the middle wearing a peaked cap and smoking a cigarette, I was a Coldstream Guardsmen, before I received my commission.
