John Tyre was born and grew up in the City of Los Angeles. He graduated from North Hollywood High School in 1971 with honors. He attended the University of California at Riverside in 1972, where in addition to his academic studies he played on the UCR golf team, finishing in third place in the NCAA Division II team competition. He graduated from California State University in Los Angeles with a Baccalaureate degree in 1975.

        Mr. Tyre worked as a glazier for a well-known glass company in Los Angeles for three years. He clerked for the Los Angeles County District Attorney's office in 1980-1981, and finished his J.D. in 1982. Upon passing the California State Bar examination, he began a private practice, and has remained exclusively in private practice since that time.

        During the course of Mr. Tyre's career he has personally handled over 2,000 misdemeanor and 1,000 felony matters, tried over 15 homicide cases and handled several death penalty cases. He is certified to practice in the following courts:

            United States Tax Court

            United States Surpreme Court

            United States Federal Courts

            California State and Appellate Courts

        He has served as a Judge Pro Tempore in Citrus, Rio Hondo, and Santa Anita Municipal Courts in Los Angeles County, California.
