Corpus Christi (population 274,234) is known as the Sparkling City by the Bay. And it is located right on the edge of Corpus Christi Bay, with 3 beaches all close to the downtown area: North Beach, McGree Beach, and Emerald Beach. All offer great kayak launch sites to explore the downtown Marina, the Lexington Aircraft Carrier, and she Shrimp Boat fleet.

Only 20 miles south of downtown Corpus Christi is the Padre Island National Seashore with 130 miles of top-ranked beaches. It is the largest undeveloped barrier island in the continental U.S. There is great kayaking all up and down the beach on the Gulf of Mexico side, and on the protedted Laguna Madre towards he mainland side. Fantastic birding all around the many spoil islands.

For even greater kayaking variety, there are 3 beautiful shady rivers to explore: Nueces River, Aransas River, and Mission River. All offer great areas of wilderness and natural wildlife. In addition, there are nearby trips available to kayak the Port Aransas, Aransas Pass, Rockport, and Goose Island areas with unlimited birding opportunities.
