There were two groups of this family that relocated to the Cabell County area.  First, we have the children of John CHAPMAN Jr. and Dicey NAPIER.  They were Andrew Johnston and George CHAPMAN.  Second, was the family of George Jackson CHAPMAN and wife Patience CLAY.  George and his children with the exception of Archibald and possibly Isaac moved to Floyd & Lawrence Co., Kentucky.  Archibald moved to Gallia County, Ohio.  David Johnston in his book, “A History of The Middle New River Settlements and Contiguous Territory” states that Isaac operated a mill in Southern Ohio.  I found Isaac in Lawrence County, Kentucky in 1850.  There was a Chapman’s Mill, but it looks like brother Archibald ran it in Gallia Co., OH.

After the John CHAPMAN, Jr. from Giles County, Virginia died his wife Dicey married her first cousin William McCOMAS, and they moved to the Cabell County area.  Her son, by John CHAPMAN, Andrew and possibly her other son George came with them.  There is some indication that George may have lived with his grandfather, although it is not clear which grandfather that it was.   In any case, George joined them at some time before 1820 and may have maintained two residences: one in Cabell Co. and the other in Gallia Co., OH before moving to IL.  Andrew raised his family in the “Paw Paw Bottom” area later known as Salt Rock, and his descendants are well represented there today.  George moved to Gallia Co., OH, Johnson County, Iowa, and some of his descendants made it as far as Oregon.

John Chapman, Jr.’s  brother Richard had two sons that moved into our area.  They were William to the Floyd/Lawrence Co., KY, and Abner that moved to Gallia Co., OH.

A note for McCOMAS researchers:  William & Dicey did have children.  Write me for information.

Archibald & Isaac – Gallia Co., OH s/o George Jackson CHAPMAN below.

Archibald moved to Ohio.  The 1820 census finds him in Lawrence Co., OH, Mason Twp., and in 1830 he is in Gallia Co., OH, Guyan Twp.

Archibald Chapman took a deed for 120 acres of land from Daniel and Mary LEWIS, in the banks of Guyan Creek to the mouth of Big Creek March 30, 1837, for $312.   Where he founded Chapman Mills behind the prestent site of Crown City.
