John Jr. 1816

John Jr. “Jackie” was first documented under his own name 13 Apr 1816 when he married Lucy HUDSON. It is not clear whether this John is descended from one of the many families here or whether he arrived independently. If he is a local boy, there are several prospective families. I should point out that the “Jr.” doesn’t necessarily indicate a familial relationship. It is just a way that government officials distinguish between the various people with the same name.

There seems to be lot’s of confusion about John, Jr.’s parentage. I have worked this family for over 30 years, and don’t know who his parents are. I noticed a few years ago that there were those on the internet connecting John, Sr. as the father. I had thoroughly explored this possibility, and could not agree. So, I personally contacted each one of them. No one had any proof. All I heard was, “I got it from this or that person.” I followed the trail to the originator (who I knew to be a good genealogist, but not a CHAPMAN descendant) and he said that he didn’t know why that he published that John Sr. was John Jr.’s father, but that he would correct the mistake. Well, it has been years and I still see still is being kicked around.

The loss of the 1790, 1800 & 1810 Census for our area has dealt a serious blow to this research, and because of this loss we may never find anything definitive regarding this mystery. If any of you have even a small shred of evidence, please contact me, and I will include it in this publication.
