Empennage Assembly

Now that the tailcone is finished, it's time to start assembling the parts of the Empennage into something you will recognize.

Mounting the left elevator to the horizontal stabilizer.

The throw of the elevators needs to be measured. Checking the Right Elevator with a protractor.

The left elevator is attached. Movement & clearance need to be checked.

A machined (by me) metal tube is used as a drill bit guide to drill the yokes.

Drilling the right elevator yoke, using the guide. Hope it turns out.

The vertical stabilizer is on

Elevators and rudder are all attached

The horizontal stabilizer is aligned & mounted on the tail

The elevator push rod is installed

Ready to dismantle to start work on the fairings

Returned to the tailcone in July 2008 to install Service Bulletin, install the autopilot servo for the elevators and install the static lines. I routed them up and forward. After joining to the fuselage I'll route it back down and up the lower port side. The go up first to keep water out of the system.

State lines were installed in preparation for joining the tail and fuselage.
