Warm-Season
Garden
Vegetables
Warm season vegetables are listed below.
They require warm soil and air temperatures so that seeds will germinate, grow and develop into mature crop producers. They will not tolerate frost and can be damaged by prolonged temperatures as low as
15 degrees above freezing. Depending upon your climate zone, the date varies
as to when you can set out started plants or plant seeds. We are in Zone 4 and
our ‘frost date’ is May 15th. These warm season plants
must also be planted early enough to mature and bear prior to cold temperatures in the fall. So
check out estimated days to harvest to make sure your plants have time to grow, mature and produce a harvest. Pick varieties suited to your zone.
Most warm season vegetables must be, for our zone, planted no later than early
July. These vegetables are deep-rooted and often quite resistant to drought. But watering in due season will produce greater yields and help keep your crop healthy
so your plants may resist common diseases. Warm-season vegetables are listed
below.
1. Beans (bush, snap & pole)
2. Cantaloupe
3. Sweet corn
4. Cucumbers
5. Eggplant
6. Okra
7. Sweet Peppers
8. Hot Peppers
9. Sweet potatoes
10. Pumpkins
11. Summer Squash
12. Tomatoes
