| THE WHOLE NINE YARDS |

Some movies are really hard to pin down, especially when you can’t decide what was wrong with it. With THE WHOLE NINE YARDS, the overall problem is clear…bad direction. “This director knows nothing about comedy,” I thought. I then couldn’t believe that it was Jonathan Lynn. Since he did CLUE and MY COUSIN VINNY, you’d think that he’d know how to do this well. Either he’s forgotten, or is having one heck of a bad streak.
But doubtlessly, this movie’s relative success resides in its performers. Yeah, Matthew Perry is just playing his character from FRIENDS again and is obviously capable of better, but since it works here, you don’t mind the simple transplant (for once). So thanks to his efforts and others, NINE YARDS ends up being an amusing lark where if you don’t take it seriously, you should enjoy yourself.
