SNAKE EYES

Star Star Star

For the first half, it seemed for sure that Brian De Palma had himself another masterpiece. Strong performances, a convincing plot and great direction run rampant, including a great scene in the beginning where the camera never cuts for almost ten minutes. You need to have things blocked to perfection for a scene like that, and they did. The story is slightly predictable, but De Palma’s pace and direction (and actors too) are so good that you don’t mind it. Unfortunately, the script starts to fall apart in the second half and the film just isn’t as good. (I hate when that happens.) If De Palma and co-writer David Koepp had rewritten this half, they would have had the best movie anyone has seen in a while. As is though, I still liked it. SNAKE EYES is worth seeing, if only for its fantastic first hour.
