Shortly before seeing this, I’d read how one critic was actually fired because of too many negative reviews. Huh? So it’s either lie to your readers or lose your job? Of course, the dry spell in good movies being released (hence the negativity) couldn’t have anything to do with it. No, of course not. So why then are studios inventing fake critics to praise their shitty films with? Because movies like SERENDIPITY would likely be trashed if they didn’t. And for the most part, it was.

      Embellishing or exaggerating the cuteness factor in any romantic comedy will always be its undoing. Sadly, SERENDIPITY just embellishes away. But in this genre, destiny is an appealing focus and likely why I still gave it points. The question of “what if” has always intrigued me. So on a few levels this movie works, just not enough overall. Compared to most romantic comedies, this is just a wannabe in every sense of the word.
