Oh boy, that’s all we need is another Randy Newman soundtrack…sigh! But hey, I’ll let it slide this time. All kidding aside, this is a cute little film. But it’s a peculiar one also, in that the comedy still works when it probably shouldn’t. Many of the situations are standards really for bad comedies, yet they still end up being effective here. Thankfully, the screenwriters added extra twists to these tired old jokes, so you’re still able to laugh. And I did laugh, a number of times in fact, particularly at the faces Ben Stiller and De Niro make. But you feel so sorry for Stiller though, because the guy he’s playing never seems to catch a break. And at times, this can be too painful to watch. In truth, I can honestly see why someone wouldn’t like this movie, especially for the reason above. But I still liked it!
