Dr. Seuss’ HOW THE GRINCH STOLE CHRISTMAS

Star Star Star½

After three failed attempts, due to always selling out, I finally got to see THE GRINCH. And for the doubters among us, Ron Howard has done it again, surpassing any and all expectations I think. The true test of any fantasy is whether they can bring you into their world and keep you there. THE GRINCH does so from beginning to end, creating a lavish and wonderful spectacle for the eyes. But it’s not just eye candy, as it does warm your heart too, like all holiday films should. Jim Carrey is really great and so is the little girl playing Cindy Lou Who. Any complaints I have really are minimal, except that it felt a little long in places. Perhaps cutting down the Whobilation sequence a bit might’ve benefited the flow more, getting us to the Grinch’s Christmas mischief sooner. That’s about it though.

HOW THE GRINCH STOLE CHRISTMAS has and will always be enjoyed by the young and young at heart. The film here should be no exception, and is one of the few times this year I actually felt the holiday spirit. “Maybe Christmas…perhaps…means a little bit more!” How can you argue with that? So forget about those people who panned it, they never understood anyway. Just enjoy yourself! You and the kids won’t be disappointed.
