| JERRY MAGUIRE |
½
JERRY MAGUIRE is a good film, regardless of whether it was a big-budgeted Hollywood production. Let me tell you, I’ve also seen some underground, critically acclaimed movies that were just plain crap. I’m sorry, but being underground and low budget does not automatically make it a classic. A good film is a good film, whether it came from Hollywood or from some poor schmoe whose hocked everything he has to finance his little production.
Tom Cruise is excellent as the down-n-out sports agent, Maguire. And while I wasn’t impressed with Renée Zellweger at first, the more I watched, the more I liked her performance. Cuba Gooding, Jr. is good also, but most would agree that he didn’t deserve the OSCAR. Still, the acceptance speech he gave alone was reason enough for him to win in my book.
This movie will make you laugh and cry, all at the same time. It’s a wonderful film that shouldn’t be missed. Of course, I do know a few people who find Maguire’s speech to his wife in the end hokey. Well, if this happens to be you too, I can only say that I am sorry that your heart is so empty.
