| L.A. CONFIDENTIAL |
½
It’s a real shame because this had potential. And while there were some good moments, the dumb ones were just too bad and too frequent. For example, the police corruption aspect in this film is so overdone and cliché that you find yourself saying constantly, “Oh, give me a break!” And that’s not the only thing. My audience was actually laughing out loud at some of these pitiful moments and so was I. So unless you’re really big fans of the actors involved, I suggest skipping L.A. CONFIDENTIAL altogether.
And frankly, I don’t care how many OSCAR nominations it received, because it didn’t deserve a one. Few remember, as I do, how fast this movie was originally in and out of theaters. (For the record, I saw it in its first opening weekend.) In fact, until it was nominated, most people hadn’t even heard of it. That’s how quickly it came and went. But whether it’s this or any film, the Academy Awards should still be scrutinized because they too reward films that are less than good. Even the people who like this movie say that Kim Basinger shouldn’t have won an award for it.
