THE EXORCIST

Star Star Star Star Star

When it comes to horror, JAWS is the best, but EXORCIST is the scariest! This newly remastered version looks and sounds great, and hardly shows its age at all. In fact, you’d be hard pressed to distinguish it from most modern films quality wise. (That is until you saw the 70’s haircuts of course.) Most of the additions are good and better than expected. I didn’t think they would be. The spider walk sequence, for example, is cut together better than I’d seen in documentaries. The subliminal Devil shot though still gets me every time. In fact, be prepared for a few added flashes in this edition. They were pretty freaky and caught me off guard.

The only drawback to THE EXORCIST may in fact be modern day audiences. My theater was packed, but I still heard the usual dim-witted rants from people who refuse to shut it. Things like, “This gets more exciting, right?” or, “I can’t wait for this movie to start,” twenty minutes in. You then realize how crap like SCREAM has forever ruined some. They seem to have no idea what real suspense is anymore, or what it takes to build towards it. Yet many of these same individuals stilled jumped at the scarier parts, which goes to prove the old adage…those who talk the most are really the most scared. Remember that the next time someone won’t shut his or her yap during a scary movie. :-)
