| ENTRAPMENT |
½
ENTRAPMENT is modest fair. In some ways, it’s better than I expected but then worse in others. I probably enjoyed the technical gadgetry more than anything else. Some extremely cheesy dialogue is what didn’t help things though. Unfortunately, Catherine Zeta-Jones suffers from the blunt of this, chewing her way through some really bad lines that make her sound just like a whining teenager. And it wasn’t her acting ability either. Any good performer would have had a tough time making those exchanges come off.
The ending is a big stinker too. In an effort to surprise audiences as much as possible, they decided to flood the conclusion with twist after twist. Unfortunately, and I’ve seen this before, they added so many surprises that when you consider each one, not many of them make sense. Or countless holes can be poked in their validity or actual possibility, as with THE USUAL SUSPECTS, so be warned.
Of course, Sean Connery is his usual cooler than cool self, so this won’t displease his fans, I’m sure. (Hey, I’m a fan too.) But like I said, the flick isn’t bad.
