END OF DAYS is an every way a great idea, and was a movie I was looking forward to ever since I saw the teaser trailer months and months before. Schwarzenegger plays the hero yet again, battling off Satan to save the world. Yeah, it does sound silly when you put it like that, but it looked good. (At least I thought so.) END OF DAYS is ultimately too much of a no brainer though, which I may be understating. The script is rather flaky and unwilling to take chances, following instead the usual formula of uninventiveness with no real plot. For an action flick, Arnold just doesn’t kick enough ass for my tastes either. When he does, it’s too little too late. Or maybe it was that he never had the upper hand, like all good heroes should? Both, probably. Truth be told, I didn’t hate this movie entirely, but my conscience wouldn’t allow it anything higher than 1½. So unless you’ve witnessed the horror (i.e. the mediocrity) already, don’t even bother.
