We might as well go through the formalities first. Yes, EDTV is very much like THE TRUMAN SHOW and contains some elements that are almost identical. With that said, EDTV does have enough originality on its own to separate it and not make it a carbon copy. The film might have benefited more from a delayed release, but the comparisons were probably inevitable. Since it was Ron Howard though, I bit the bullet anyway and ignored the similarities in the previews. The good news is that I wasn’t disappointed. It’s not one of Howard’s best, but EDTV is still pretty entertaining and a nice diversion. Matthew McConaughey and Jenna Elfman are good leads and McConaughey doesn’t disappoint for a second. The supporting cast is a real hoot too. (Hoot? Wow, I never thought I’d use that word).
