DEEP BLUE SEA

Star Star

JAWS meets JURASSIC PARK in this sometimes good, but mostly ridiculous knock off of the same. To begin with, every disaster is laughingly overdone and so utterly convenient too, in how each one effects everything else. And the Computer Generated sharks are the worst, with light speed movements that are so beyond absurd, they insult even a child’s intellect. (CG animators must be getting lazy.) JAWS came out 25 years ago and their animatronic shark is still more believable.

The only actor escaping with any credibility is Thomas Jane (BOOGIE NIGHTS), probably because he had the only worthwhile character. With that said, Samuel L. Jackson fans are advised to steer clear, or else you’ll likely be pissed. Frankly, Sam doesn’t last long and it really sucks. Of course, despite these continually bad films, director Renny Harlin is still working. Why, why, why? When will studios finally stop wasting their time on his projects? One only wonders what the money he squanders could do if it went to a real filmmaker. Maybe someday we’ll know.

These days, horror and comedy have almost switched meanings, because the horror movies are funnier than the comedies, and the comedies are so horrendous, they’re scary. Think about it! Until next time... :-)
