D.B. Sweeney stars as Doug Dorsey, a young American hockey player whose promising career is cut short when he is blindsided while playing in the Olympics. As a result of his injury, Doug is left with a blind spot and can no longer play professionally. Also competing is figure skater Kate Mosley, played by Moira Kelly, who loses any chance of a medal when she falls in the final seconds of her duo arrangement.
The story then jumps to two years later. Doug is stuck working in a dead end job, still longing to play, while Kate’s snobbishness has alienated every possible partner she could have. All out of choices, Kate’s coach decides to give Dorsey a chance and see if there’s a figure skater inside the hockey player. Doug is of course apprehensive, especially when he meets the “temperamental” Kate. Can the two pull it together as partners and actually compete in the big time, or will they end up killing each other first?
Directed by Paul Michael Glaser (Starsky & Hutch), THE CUTTING EDGE is just a wonderful romantic movie. I still get choked up every time I see it too. And if you’re looking for a good date movie, you can’t go wrong here.
