BIG MOMMA’S HOUSE

Star Star

Martin Lawrence always has the misfortune, it seems, of having too many of the funny moments in his movies appear in the previews. As a result, most of the big laughs have already been spoiled. In this case, the only exception is the baby delivery scene halfway through, which was hysterical. But BIG MOMMA’S HOUSE is really just a lesser reworking of the movie, STAKEOUT, only with someone in drag. And while the escaped fugitive in the latter was a real threat and focus, it’s almost forgotten about in BIG MOMMA. It’s also rather stupidly wrapped up within minutes too.

You could finally say that the whole production here was just a vehicle to get Lawrence in a dress, but please, let’s not be so obvious next time. Yes, this film does have its simple charm(s), but for my money, I honestly didn’t laugh that much. And for a comedy, you can’t really have too many detractors larger than that.
