THE BIG LEBOWSKI

Star Star½

The Coen brothers are outstanding filmmakers and happen to be some of my favorites. Unfortunately, their latest entry doesn’t quite hit the mark. Put simply, the whole movie is just too up and down. Sometimes it’s really good and sometimes it’s really lame. If certain scenes had been rewritten and the direction of the plot changed a bit, they would have had perfection. As it stands though, THE BIG LEBOWSKI is entertaining but not the classic it could have been.

They say winning an OSCAR is more of a curse to your career than a blessing. I hope that doesn’t prove true in the case of the Coen brothers. But as much as I love their work, I am not going to lie about this film or delude myself into liking it only because it’s hip to like them. I’ve already seen one other famous critic, who shall remain nameless, do this and I think it’s pathetic.
