      BETTER OFF DEAD is a classic 80’s comedy with a premise that’s short and sweet. Our teenage hero, Lane Myer, is heartbroken when his girlfriend of 6 months (Beth) decides to dump him for “someone more popular.” What follows is a hilarious romp as Lane tries to cope with his loss by numerous half-baked attempts to “end it all,” that always seem to fail in the funniest of ways. And in the interim, Lane tries to win Beth back, with his oddball friends and family sometimes helping or making things worse.

      Looking back, this movie made me a fan of John Cusack long before anyone had even heard of him. If you’re a fan too, or just love wacky comedies, you have to add this to your list of future rentals. You’ll never look at Paperboys or Jell-O the same way again. :-)
