THE ART OF WAR

Star½

Movies like this really piss me off. Not only because their bad, but because their insulting. Those of you thinking that movies aren’t used for propaganda had simply better think again. This flick is a prime example! One trick is to have your main antagonists believe in something that you don’t, whether it’s political or whatever. The intent is to then invalidate those beliefs by associating them with untrustworthy sources. Of course, they’re just characters in a movie, but that’s the insidiousness of propaganda. It knows no restraints, either small or large. My question is how people can be so oblivious to it, especially when it’s this obvious. But I’d still rather not get into the specifics of it and instead leave it up to you to decide.

With that said, as a movie, ART OF WAR doesn’t fair well either. It’s a decent idea, but a weak plot with bad dialogue and really poor execution. Wesley Snipes is given some of the worst one-liners imaginable. One twist even, which is so obvious, is blatantly ripped off from MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE and won’t surprise you in the least. Wesley definitely shouldn’t have passed on SHAFT for this. Even that was better!
