ARMAGEDDON

Star Star

While this is not the usual Jerry Bruckheimer suckfest, ARMAGEDDON is still plagued with problems. For one, Bruckheimer should really learn the meaning of the word, “overkill.” While DEEP IMPACT didn’t have enough, ARMAGEDDON has too much…way, way too much. In fact, all of Bruckheimer’s movies have the same problems really. They’re filled with too many stupid bits and unnecessary scenes. The space station sequence in this movie is totally pointless and could have easily been written out. Truth be told, there is such a thing as too much action.

Without a doubt, the cast here is phenomenal. Everyone is good, but Billy Bob Thornton and Will Patton were my favorites. Steve Buscemi and Bruce Willis deserve an honorable mention too. Bruckheimer obviously spares no expense when it comes to casting, so why can’t he spend a little extra and get a good director? That’s what he really needs! And while you’re at it, Jerry, getting a decent scriptwriter wouldn’t be bad either.

Since neither DEEP IMPACT nor ARMAGEDDON is so hot, I can’t recommend either one really. It’s too bad you can’t combine the best parts of both movies into one. Now that would be a film! On a final note, I love the new Aerosmith song. I think I’ll buy the single :-)
