THE APOSTLE

Star Star Star Star

While not for all tastes, this is still a wonderful film. Robert Duvall is excellent and well deserving of his Best Actor nomination. The real shame however is that this film deserved far more recognition than that, because in the final tally, THE APOSTLE is one of ‘97’s best! It has a particular flavor that’s a little hard to get into, but only at first. Before long, you cannot help but be thoroughly engrossed in the story.

To be honest, I knew next to nothing about this movie before seeing it, including how Duvall wrote and directed it. And in learning more about the film’s production, I came across some disappointing facts. The worst of all being that Duvall actually had to fight (for years it seems) to get this movie made. That is really sad, especially when crap like TURBULENCE is made and marketed at the drop of a hat. Why not take a chance, as I did, and see for yourself. THE APOSTLE is worth the effort and should not be missed.
