"Out
There," a new science fiction series which will dramatize the adventures
of heroic earth men in the mysterious regions of this world's outer spaces,
will make its debut on the CBS Television Network Sunday, October 28 (CBS-TV,
6:00-6:30 PM, EST).
Geared for an
adult audience with great appeal for children, "Out There" will be
a "live" TV program using integrated film. The series will take its
audience "Out There" by the use of special effects and trick camera
techniques. It is a CBS-TV package created by Donald Davis, produced by John
Haggott and directed by Byron Paul and Andrew McCullough.
The subtitle of
the new thriller series, "Out there -- in Time, Space and the Worlds of
Science Fiction," indicates the imaginative character of the subject
matter. Each program will be a complete episode, with a beginning and an end,
with different players, all outstanding in the acting profession. The story
of each program will be based on the work of a leading writer of the science
fiction field.
The premiere
program, representative of the background and daring-do of the series, is
titled "The Outer Limit," adapted from a Saturday Evening Post
story by Graham Doar. It is the tale of a young U.S. Air Forces pilot who
test flies a new rocket ship literally out of this world. As he zooms through
the interplanetary regions, a patrol ship of the Intergalactic Council scoops
him up and takes him prisoner. The Councilors convey to him their unhappiness
over the way men of Earth are using atomic weapons. Afraid that these new
engines of war will upset the balance of surrounding planets, they send him
back to Earth with a warning to his people.
