Another obscure series that not a lot is known about. This was filmed so you would think episodes
might still be out there. Though
we found 15 listings for this show it is more than likely
that 13 episodes were filmed, as that was a very common
practice in the early 1950’s for summer re-placement
programs. We
suspect that of the 15 listings two would have been repeats. Please let the authors of
this website know of any additional information that comes
available.
AUTHORS NOTE: A small blurb in the CHANNEL ONE page of
TV FORECAST for February 11, 1950 should be noted here: "Set
owners are wondering when Al Capp's 'Lil Abner' series will start on
ABC-TV, after being promised the tele-cartoon. Capp is still
looking for honest-to-goodness people to play and look the parts."

We know that as early as 1949 Al Capp
had hoped to bring his characters to television. An article in
the November 1949 issue of Telecast (Number 1 issue) has photo's
of the cast that included Craig Shepard as Li'l Abner, and Judy Bourne
as Daisy Mae, and stated that the show would premiere over the ABC-TV
network. The September 24, 1949 of issue TV Forecast
had a letter that reads: "Sir, When I read in your magazine that Al
Capp's comic strip will come to life on TV I couldn't help but ask if
you'll give us a sneak preview of the gal to play the role of Daisy
Mae." The letter was signed JACK GORDON of Chicago
Ill. That issue had a photo of Judy Bourne.
It is strange that when Fearless Fosdick finally premiered in the
Summer of 1952, it was NBC-TV that would carry the episodes, and not
ABC.
