First up, the
destruction that took place today in downtown Megopolous totaled
$2.5 million. The cause was reportedly due to a gas leak inside the MegaCorp skyscraper which ignited when a worker lit a cigarette in a
no smoking area. However, there have been a number of reports that
state it wasn't a gas leak that caused the destruction, but a
person. That is - a person who tore out large pieces of the
building's support structure to gain access to an underground
vault. As remarkable as this sounds, it has been confirmed that a
vault did exist within the basement and that it was damaged in the
explosion. When Douglas McCain, Manager of the MegaCorp building,
was asked if anything was destroyed or stolen from this vault, he
only responded with, "Our clients are entitled to their privacy so
no statement will be made."

In other news,
the President, concerned about global terrorism, has decided to
support Homeland Security’s Global Freedom Initiative, also known as
the GFI. Knowing full well that conventional weapons are not of
significant value in this matter, the GFI will focus on Intelligence
Gathering, Advanced Communication and Advanced Deployment
Technology. Since terrorist attacks sometimes give very little
advanced warning, it is imperative that peace keeping forces can be
deployed at a moment's notice and, just as importantly, be at the
scene anywhere in the world just as quickly to stop any threat.
Significant resources will be applied to all three areas.
