Belrud Johnson was once on top of the world.

During the 70's, Belrud was the original Construction Worker for the super group, The Village People. After a quarrel with the Cowboy, Belrud was forced to leave the band. Destitute and heartbroken, he traveled the clubs from San Francisco to Provincetown for years trying to find himself. Everywhere he went, he drew great admiration at how adeptly he could handle his tools. It was during this time in the back room of the famed ManRay in Cambridge, that Belrud earned the nickname "Jackhammer."

One night in the late 80's while walking through Central Square, Belrud and his companion were viciously attacked. While his companion was able to scurry away to safety, Belrud decided to stand his ground. It was either the stupidest thing he ever did, or the smartest. For in the hospital, while the surgeons worked to rebuild his shattered body, Belrud's subconscious mind took over, vowing never to allow this kind of thing to happen to anyone else. So, from San Francisco to Provincetown...bashers and haters better look out, for there is a new man on the scene...and his name is JACKHAMMER!!!!

Jackhammer is proficient in many forms of un-armed combat, but is most dangerous while wielding his screwdriver, or "shank" and his ball peen hammer. He can also operate just about any form of construction vehicle. However, Jackhammer prefers to travel around in his pile driver, named The Rainbow Warrior, all the while blasting 70's disco music through a specially built sound system designed to take such punishment.

Jackhammer's one weakness is that occasionally in the heat of battle, Belrud will suffer a Fashion Moment in which he realizes how poorly those around him are dressed, causing him to turn tail and run away. Screaming in a high pitched voice, which has been known to burst the ear drums of those nearby, he will not rejoin the battle until he can recover himself.
