Safety in Numbers:
A herd of gazelles can survive an attack by hungry lions simply because there are more gazelles than the lions can catch. Individual gazelles will perish in the attack, but the herd, as a whole, will survive. Any gazelles who have been pounced upon by hungry lions probably consider this a pretty lousy means of ensuring safety.
Unfortunately, this "safety in numbers" method is the Internet user's primary means of security. Simply due the vast amounts of information flowing through the Internet, the majority of users are able to frolic happily in the savannas of data, never falling prey to the clutches of malicious individuals or groups.


However, blind luck isn't a user's only defense in the wilds of cyberspace. Armed with the knowledge of potential threats and available safeguards, Internet users may take steps to insure that they aren't among the stragglers at the back of the herd.
