Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery is a medical specialty concerned with the treatment and surgery of the ear, nose, throat and related structures of the face and neck.

The specialty encompasses:

· treatment of common infections of the ears, nose, and throat

· surgery of benign and malignant tumors of the head and neck

· management of patients with loss of hearing and balance

· endoscopic examination of the air and food passages

· treatment of allergic, sinus, laryngeal, and esophageal disorders

The American Academy of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery represents more than 7,800 ( 90% ) members of this medical specialty. The AAO-HNS serves as the governmental and socioeconomic support base for all otolaryngologists. Its purposes are to advance the science and art of medicine as related to this specialty and to provide educational services.
