Our Trip From North Carolina To Bonanza, Oregon
It was pouring down rain the morning that we was getting ready to leave with our new (to us) Motor Home for Oregon. Gorden said that if I wanted him to back the MH down the hill so we could hook-up the Colorado, he would and I said you bet!!!! We got hooked up and said our goodby's and I started down the hill on roads just wide enough for the MH and had to wait for people to move out of the way!!! When we got onto the Freeway it was raining so hard that with the wiper's on full speed you couldn't see 10 feet in front of you and the water was coming off of the mountain side like a water fall and it was this way for a couple of hours.
Our first stop was Pigeon Forge, TN and Dolly Wood, we stayed at the Clabaughs RV Park. We stayed for two days and went to see Dolly Wood. Our next stop was Lebanon, TN and Temberline RV Park. The next morning we decided to fuel-up and it was a first for us at the 18-wheeler Truck stop. They told us to take the nozzel on thr driver side and lay it on the ground and go to the other side and pump the fuel, it turns out that we can fill from either side!!!! Then we left and drove to Paducka, Kentucky and spent two days and went down to the river and saw the ship that was like the one Colmbus sailed to America in. We stayed at Duck Creek RV Park. The next night we stayed at the Little House on the Prarrie RV Park in Mansfield, MO. The next morning we drove to Branson, MO and the StageCoach RV Park. We met with Peggy and Ed and they took us to see the Presley,s and they sure did put on a good show!!! We stayed in Branson seeing the sites and visiting with Peggy and Ed (Joeanne's sister) for six days as we had to have a new "Board" installed in the front Air Conditioner as it quit working. Then we headed to Joplin, MO (a short drive) to see where my dad was born and stayed at Carthage, MO at the Big Red Barn RV Park and stayed two nights. We both loved this area and would have liked to stay longer!!!! We drove to Salina, KS and stayed at the KOA RV Park. The next morning the wind was starting to blow and after about five miles the wind was blowing so hard that the Awning on the big slideout, one arm was going in and out and we were doing about 40 MPH to keep it from blowing off!!! We finally came to a rest stop and another RV'er came over to see if he could help me. We decovered that one of the bolts to lock the arm down was in the wrong hole so he had tool's and we changed it. We then drove to Hays, KS to a Wal-Mart and bought some Bungy and Tie-Wraps to lock everything down with as the wind was "BAD" I got it all tied down and went to start the rig and the battery was to low to start it. I found out that while we where shopping Fancy was all over the Dash and turned on the Mirror Heater's and some other things and run down the batteries. I let it set for a few minutes and tried the Generator and it did start and charged the batteries we got the rig started and on our way as a Tornado was comming our way!!! We drove to Colby, KS and the Bourquins RV Park and that night I could see the storm back at Hays, KS area was really going strong!!!! Glad we got out of there!!! The next day we drove through Denver, CO and Hi-way 70 to Grand Junction to pick-up some of Ed's stuff. We climbed to over 12,000 feet and it was snowing but we made it OK. We spent the night at Gympson, CO and the River Dance RV Park and it was the first time we needed to use the Heater!!! Next day we drove to Fruita, CO and the Monument RV Park and called Ed's friends and went and got his stuff. Next morning we left Fruita and drove to Sandy, UT and the Quail RV Park. The next day we drove to Battle Mountain, NV and Battle Mountain RV Park, it was early in the afternoon as we could see a storm ahead so stopped early. Every night I would read about something on the Motor Home trying to learn about it and today I finally got the KingDome and the Tivo to work so we had TV!!! Next day we drove to Sparks, NV and the Rivers Edge RV Park where we stayed two years ago on our way south. We spent two days there and had the Motor Home washed. We then drove to Bonanza, OR got there late and joeanne went to Jonathan's Foot Ball Game while I got us set up.
5-Days traveling to Black Mountain, NC in the Colorado, 4-Days at Gorden's and Bea's and 23-Days traveling to Bonanza in the Motor Home and Fancy was a great traveler all the way :)
