| A little bit about me, Thanks for taking a look at my site. My name is John Mathias and I'm an illustrator. I graduated from Washington University in St. Louis in 1996 and have been living in Brooklyn, NY since then. My illustrations are influenced by my years of painting the figure and the landscape in oil and acrylic. I also draw inspiration from the American advertising art and pin-up art of the 50's and 60's. The computer has been a great tool for me in recent years and many of my black line drawings are colored in Photoshop.
My other interest is in music and I've been writing and performing as a bassist and a singer since I was 14. This has led me to create posters for many local New York record labels and touring bands including my own: Team USA.
But freelancing isn't just staying at home in a bathrobe with a palette. As a designer and production artist I've spent several years working on-site at Donna Karan, Matador Records, the Style Council and many other New York design houses. These experiences have greatly improved my understanding of the role of graphic designers and art directors as well as allowing me to grow as a digital artist and designer.
So check out my portfolio and if you see something you like, send me an e-mail or call anytime.
Best Wishes,
John Mathias
