Computer evidence can be used in any type of criminal prosecution. It is not merely limited to "Computer Crimes" cases. Computer evidence has been used in homicide cases, child abduction cases, child abuse cases, pornography cases, fraud and financial crimes, conspiracies and any other crime where documents are involved. 

Frequently, evidence is deleted, hidden or password protected and an untrained person may not be able to recover the deleted files, find the evidence or unlock the password.  The untrained person will not be able to draw expert conclusions as to when, how or why the data was deleted or removed from the media. 

Even if evidence is found by the untrained person, that person's forensic qualifications, expertise and methods used will be challenged, as any other forensic examination could be challenged.  If the challenge in any of these areas is successful, valuable evidence may not be admissible. 

Additionally, if the computer system is not seized properly, transported properly, stored properly or is not examined using sound, tested forensic methods, the system could crash or data could be lost and valid lawsuits against the government could follow. 

In fraud or other investigations involving large quantities of data, or data in a proprietary format, we can convert the format of data to a format that your in-house expert or examiner is familiar with or is required.  These formats include, text for use in word processors, Excel or other spreadsheet formats, Access or other database formats, etc.
