What are Computer Forensics and what can they do for me?

Forensic Computer and Data Examinations are thorough, tightly controlled and fully documented examinations of computers and associated storage media for data which is of interest to the agency or client. This data could provide potentially relevant evidence and/or investigative leads.

Forensic computer examinations go far beyond normal data recovery techniques and go into areas and files on the media not normally accessed by untrained personnel. These examinations can find the data that the agency or client wants or needs.

Forensic computer examinations are conducted using procedures and protocols that ensure all data that can be found is recovered and presented to the client. A forensic computer examination will ensure that the data found is admissible in court, if necessary.

One may simply think of computer crimes as someone trying to "hack" into a computer system or as crimes committed on the internet. However, once it is realized that computer storage media are really large filing cabinets with detailed, retrievable records of the activities of the user, it can be seen that computer evidence can be very important in any type investigation or inquiry.

We can evaluate the recovered data or, if you prefer, the data can be converted to any format that your in-house investigator, fraud examiner, accountant, or other forensic expert can use or may require. We frequently receive clients who have utilized other examiners or other agencies and are dissatisfied with the thoroughness of the examination, the manner in which the results were presented, the explanation of technical issues or the readability of the reports. Sometimes the other examiner or agency didn't even address the issues requested by the client.

We will present the evidence or data to you in a format or manner that will be understandable to you and will be usable in court or for your inquiry.
