Curriculum Vitae of John J. Mellon

John Mellon
is a retired US Customs Senior Special Agent with 28 years investigative
experience and over 23 years experience in computers. He was the first IACIS (International Association of Computer
Investigative Specialists) Certified
Forensic Computer Examiner (CFCE).
He is well known and recognized for his expertise in the field of computer forensics. Mr. Mellon's qualifications include:

He is the founder and president of the International Society of Forensic Computer Examiners (www.isfce.com).

The ISFCE provides the CCE certification for computer
forensic professionals. It is the primary certification for non-law
enforcement forensic computer examiners.
He personally developed
the Certified Computer Examiner (CCE) certification that is recognized world wide.

He has taught many hundreds of forensic examiners through his association with IACIS and Key Computer Service since 1994.
He received initial computer
forensic training in 1991 by the (IACIS). IACIS is comprised of law
enforcement officers from the US and other countries. It is the only international
organization that trains and provides certifications in computer forensics specifically to law enforcement officers.
He has been a lead instructor
at IACIS training conferences. He has been involved in the training of
hundreds of law enforcement officers worldwide in computer forensics since
1994. He knows and has trained virtually every law enforcement officer
who is active in computer forensics and who was trained by IACIS before 2003.
He is active member
of IACIS and a past member of the Board of Directors. He was formerly the chairman of the Certification Committee and the Chairman of the IACIS Board of Directors. The Certification Committee authorizes the CFCE certification to law enforcement officers who have received the proper training and who have passed a written examination in seizing and forensically processing

He personally developed and implemented the IACIS CFCE process and problem set in 1997. He "coined" the CFCE name.
He personally
developed and implemented the IACIS Forensic Examination Standards, the
IACIS Code of Ethics and the advanced Windows Processing Certification.
He was also responsible for overseeing IACIS Research and
Development.
He received a lifetime membership in IACIS from the IACIS Board of Directors in 2004.

He was the first
computer forensic examiner for US Customs in Miami, Florida. In that connection
he set up the forensic examination program in Miami in 1991 and forensically examined many computers between 1991 and 1993.
He started Key
Computer Service in 1993 and has continued to forensically examine computers
for US Customs, DEA, local police agencies, attorneys, private companies
and individuals.
He developed online and classroom forensic computer training courses that were taught by universities. In that connection, forensic computer examination procedures and methods were taught to hundreds of law enforcement officers and civilian examiners worldwide.
He has been cited as a computer forensic expert in affidavits in US District Court, Miami,
Florida.
He has been given
expert witness status and provided expert witness testimony in court and
in a deposition in Circuit Court, Miami, Florida.
He has been given

County Court, Atlanta, Georgia.

in West Palm Beach, Florida.
He has published
articles about computer forensic topics and issues.
He gives talks

Certified Fraud Examiners and Information Systems Audit & Control
