Orchid #010 :
Brassia Caudata #235

Purchased from the Marin Orchid Society booth at a Bon Air Center Cinquo de Mayo "Fair" for $15.

Three leafless psuedobulbs. Two broad "sword" leaves on a fourth bulb, which had a ~10" spike with 12 densly positioned flowers approximately 7" in full height. Greenish yellow with brown stripes. Looks like a flowering starfish. 3" square pot.

5/20/01: Buds beginning to dry and drop. Moved from south facing kitchen window to bathroom.

7/12/01: Repotted into Dyna-Rok. Went up to round plastic pot ~4" diameter. Found some dead roots under center of the oldest bulb.

7/23/01: No new growth evident. Leaves look really nice and bright green. A couple brown spots here and there.

010_record0901010_newgrowth09018/6/01: Definitely new growth coming up from base of most recent bulb. Approximately 1/2" bulb shoot. Main bulb is now 4" tall with 9" leaves.

tip burn10/4/01: After the last watering and feeding, the tip of one of the leaves seems to be suffering. I may have left the plant positioned where it received some hot midday and afternoon sun, which it has not been getting. It looks similar to sunburn on the phal that nearly destroyed all of its leaves. It first showed up as a little browning at the tip, then has continued to progress to its present state. It hasn't moved further as of these notes.
