Orchid #009:
Dendrobium without tag.
Retrieved from "pasture" 1/26/01
Very dried out, falling over in pot.
Repotted into a 6" pot

3/2/01: Some slight leaf growth, but in general very little activity. One leaf yellowed and dropped off from the lowest part of the largest stalk.

3/16/01: More yellowing on the next leaf up the main stalk.

crutch patrol5/5/01: Not much visible growth. But, it makes a great support for Orchid #1's stunning spike growth. That's it on the left of this photo.

6/4/01: Repotted into Dyna-Rok. When I dumped out the old mix, I found that there was a 2" x 2" block of wood that the roots had been working into. It was very damp and rotted, with the roots worming through it like termites. I crumbled it away and used tweezers to pick out all the bits that were way up inside the root structure. Not sure if they're supposed to grow this way, but I knd of doubt it... Shifted fertilizer over to Dyna-Grow as per standard orchid feeding.

6/23/01: Steady growth from the smallest stalk, sending out either a spike or new growth about 3" long.

6/30/01: Found an encampment of aphids (tiny green little buggers...) on the new growth. Rinsed 'em all off and segregated from the other plants. Read Orchid book. Used soap& water to wash plant, rinsed liberally with the shower hose, then went out and bought some Dyna-Gro Neem Oil. Mixed up a batch as per instructions and sprayed all over the plant, plus those plants that had been nearby.
