Orchid #008:
Beallara Tropical Splendor "Golden Gate"
Received as gift from Malini, 11/3/00.
4 star-shaped blooms appeared mid-November and lasted until early December. There was a definite "peppery" smell to the blooms. Originally rather imbalanced in the 4" pot.
3/27/01: Repotted to 6" round plastic pot. There was extensive root growth filling the old container, and two new shoots were just showing, one at each edge of the plant. Clipped spike, which was pretty dried and dead looking. Removed mushrooms growing in medium. (hmmmmm...)
5/5/01:
The new shoots are approximately 3" long, arcing upward on both sides.
6/23/01: One of the shoots is begining to look wrinkled as it develops. Some leaves also have tiny dark spots. Shifted over to Dyna-Gro "Liquid Grow" this past week.

7/8/01:
Repotted again to Dyna-Rock. New growth kept coming up twisted & wrinkled,
even with good misting and KLN Root Growth Hormone. Unfortunately. this plant
had also been a victim of Jim's
Ill-Advised Potting Medium, as there was a good amount of soil in the
bottom of the pot. Overall it had good root growth, but in a similar manner
to #001, wouldn't grow into the areas which contained
soil. Orchids are smarter than me. I detangled the roots and dropped it slightly
lower into the medium to cover all roots. Photos taken.
7/19/01: Wrinkled shoots have both been "lifted" up by new, straight growth.
7/23/01: New growth now to ~5" on both sides. All newer growth looks good.
