Orchid #003 :
Phalaenopsis Hybrid
"Phal.
[(Taisuco Snow x Yukimai)
X Tailhort Snowdian] D2261
Retrieved from
"pasture" 5/00.
7/1/00
-
First bloom from this orchid. Spike was existing when it was retrieved. 5
buds evident.
7/15/00 -
Took this orchid to mom's. 3 buds had opened in total, with the fourth about
to pop.
8/15/00 -
Heat stroke city! Orchid has been in hot living room, while temperatures had
been way up there. May have been receiving direct sunlight as well. Leaves
were totally limp and droopy. Watered and removed to cooler area of house.
8/21/00 -
Retrieved to my home. Blooms had withered and died. Burned spots have appearred
on the leaves, and were "flat" in quarter-sized spots on most leaves.
Fed and watered and put outside.
Didn't record
date, but all leaves but one dropped off during the winter of '00-01. The
one which remained had a withered tip. I left the spike intact during this
time.
3/2/01 -
2nd leaf (new growth) seems to have stopped at approximately 2 - 3" of
growth. I've had this on my eastern kitchen windowsill, which actually faces
north, but receives some am sunlight directly onto the sill. There's definitely
the start o a 3rd leaf on the opposing side. Root growth visible on the surface
of the medium to ~3/4".
3/16/01 -
Very dark leaves. Misting & putting outside on the rack now that weather
has warmed.
5/15/01 -
Moved w/ #005 to bathroom. Frosted east-facing window gets morning light,
with no direct light falling on the Phal's.
5/31/01 -
Added rock tray underneath, placing Maidenfern between the two Phal's and
the window. Misting occurs each morning from showers. Feeding is weekly. With
this feeding, now using Dyna-Gro Liquid Grow Formula, using 1/4 tspn for the
"Green Can" (~1 gal).
6/3/01
-
Repotted both Phal's using Dyna-Rock(medium grade). Root conditions on this
plant was very poor, with a fair amount of rotting and little new growth.
There was really no viable roots directly under the plant. This plant was
a beneficiary of Jim's
Ill-Advised Potting Medium.
6/28/01 -
Just the tip of a new leaf has appeared, opposite the most recent one.
7/19/01 -
Accidentally knocked out of pot. Still very little root growth evident, even
though new leaf has continued to grow. Replaced in pot slightly deeper. Decided
to check condition of Orchid #005 as well.
