Yes, there are other things than orchids...

We've got a number of oddities which are in our garden. It's a fairly ecclectic mix courtesy of donated and/or homeless plants, and what was here when we moved in.

There's not a lot of rhyme or reason to the photos, other than interesting growths or blooms that were impressive.

Backyard view - 3/01
Just about as green as the lawn gets, before the herb garden went in. It's about as ratty as it gets, luckily. The Japanese Maple is the leafless growth just left of center.

Rare Cactus Bloom - 06/01
We came back to the house one evening and found that one of our cacti has burst out these blooms. The last time it happened, we never photographed it, as they last only about 24 hours. So, we grabbed the camera and got the first shot that night. These blooms were about as big as your head, and filled the air with a gardenia-like fragrance. As I was taking these photos the next morning, there were a bunch of bees happily humming around. By 4 pm the next day, all blooms had wilted.
