Rules
The rules on this page are very generic. They are only intended to provide some basic guidelines for each class. Remember that many organizations do not require a car to have period race history however they must be prepared as they would have been during their model year. You should always consult your vintage organization regarding their specific rules. In general most organizations closely follow the rules of the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA).
The SCCA still publishes both Vintage and Historic General Competition Rules as well as Production car rules. Please note that SCCA defines cars produced prior to 1962 to be Vintage and cars produced after 1962 through 1972 to be Historic.

B-Sedan
- Typically any car that competed in the B-Sedan (B/S) class from 1966 through 1972 is eligible.
- The allowed displacement range is 1301 cc up to, but not over 2500 cc.
- Common cars are Ford Cortina and Escort, Lotus Cortina, Datsun 510, BMW 1600/1800/2002 and Alfa Romeo GTA/GTV. There are over 70 cars shown in the 1972 SCCA rule book as eligible for B-Sedan. Check the Marque List option to view a list of all known cars.
- All bodywork must be original to include the inner fenders.
- Interior may be removed (seats, carpet, headliner, ect.).
- Side window glass may be removed.
- Clutch and flywheel is free however the flywheel must be the same diameter as original
- Engine may be rebored to a maximum of .047 over. Pistons, pins and connecting rods are free.
- Heads may be milled to increase compression.
- Headllights, side marker lights may be removed and their openings covered or used for air ducts.
- Springs and shocks are free but they must use the same number as original.
- Wet, loaded weight restrictions are based on a factor applied to the displacement. As an example a SHOC, non-crossflow motor will allow 1.1 pounds per cc of displacement. Factors range from 1.0 for pushrod motors to 1.2 for DHOC motors.
- Bumpers may be removed and a front spoiler may be added.
- Maximum wheel size is limited to 1 inch wider than stock, same height as stock. Maximum is 7 x 15.
- Treaded tires, 60 series or higher.
Trans-Am 2.5
The short history of the Trans-Am 2.5 series began in November of 1969 when the SCCA split the small sedans into their own series. The entire B-Sedan class was officially included in the Trans-Am series in January 1973 along with FIA groups 1 through 4. In January 1975 the series was once again reorganized and the small sedans were dropped.
Generally B-Sedan rules apply to this class with following changes or additions.
- Limited to cars (make and model) that participated in the Trans-Am 2.5 series. Sedans that are known to have participated are; Alfa Romeo GTA, BMW 1600, 2002, Datsun 510, Volvo 142, Triumph Vitesse.
- Bumpers must be in their original mounts. This is not generally enforced by most organizations.
- Treaded tires, 60 series or higher.
Production
Inclusion in a production class of any sedan is a decision made by a vintage organization rather than by the car being defined in the SCCA's eligibility list. There were no sedans defined in the 1967 or 1972 Production Car Rules (Historic). It is common for some organizations to classify these cars as E production.
